Advert Research

This is an advert for an album release by Soul Sanctuary's Afterlife. I like this advert to it being very simple and just focuses on the band name and logo. This has inspired me to keep my advert simple but effective.

Ideas

Whilst out shooting photos today I have come up with a few ideas for our music video.

1. Shots of other people enjoying themselves whilst the artist isn't.

2. Busy streets and large numbers of people.

3. Shooting at night, and with Stephs new discovery of bluring lighting to make lines means we could have some shots of that in different areas to connote confusion maybe.

Time Management

This is my my time plan of who is doing what in our group

Work in Progress

Here will be my step by step presentation of how I made my Digi Pak.

1. First I had to chose whether to make a six or four sided Digi Pak. The reason why I decided to do a four sided Digi Pak was because I didn't want the buyer to become over whelmed by lots of images and different things going on. I am aiming for an depth in curiosity with very few pictures.

Technology Skill Develop Tasks

These are the following tasks I will be doing this week to improve my technology:

1. Learn more advanced Editing skills for the music video e.g learn to make black and white images and parts.

2. Becoming familiar with more advanced setting on cameras for different effects, rather than using computer programmes.

3. Increase my knowledge of Premier Pro as it is very limited and brief.

All these I shall complete over this week and I will be making blog posts stating on how far I have got in those tasks and when I believe I shall complete them.

What is Creativity?

Sir Ken Robinson believes that creativity is lost through education and growing up "Many people leave education with no idea what their real creative abilities are." (Robinson in his book 'Out of Our Minds:Learning to be Creative'.)

This is a speech made by Ken Robinson who states that creativity is lost through growing up and schools putting pressure on students not to get things wrong ever. To prove this he says that younger children who don't know whether they are right or wrong, will stilltake a chance and are not afraid of making mistakes. I believe this is true due to seeing other students in other lessons hesitate to say an answer or speak, due to fear of being wrong. However I believe this theory is flawed due to older generations of students having more life time experience and awareness of their enviroment. This will give them more inspiration and abilities of what is avalible to them for creative ideas to come to them.

My Creative Task

This week my creative task was to come up with ideas for my Digi Pak and use them for my planning. I first created a mind map of all the ideas I could come up with and then focused on one particular idea which I thought was more entropic than the rest which were clearly redundant and not 'creative'.

Shot Ideas

Here I have shot some photos of an idea for my Digi Pak. I have the idea of each being part of a small journey through the Digi Pak

This would be the beginning of the journey in the Digi Pak
and I have tried to go for the tree frame which is like a
window into another world

This is the second picture with two roads branching off as if there is a choice of which way you
need to go.

This next image I will be having underneath the CD. It is a bridge which I connotes adventure and excitement in the buyer.

The final image is of a log pile which is formed like a fire. The reason why I built this is because it creates mystery as if there are people in this new world and the end of the journey.

The Pitch

This is a mood board that has ideas of how we want our music video to be portrayed by our audience and and ideas of what we want the music video itself. For example the lighting effect with car lights and the hustle and bustle of city life yet being alone.

This is our pitch we presented to the class.

Can't buy me Love

The video here is Can't buy me Love by The Beatles which was shown on the London trip.

With the childish behaviour of the artists we thought that the contrast of them being older men acting like children was very original and clever as it has a big contrast with the artists being adults. With the video sped up it it adds
to the wild effect and childishness. The video has inspired me and the rest of the group to use different angle shots and use make it a black and white video, however these are still to be disscussed. With the beginning of the video with the low angle shot of the bulding and stairs, this fits perfectl with what we are looking for and is a great boost forward.

The 5 Things I Need to Learn/Develop

1.The first thing I need to get in the habit of organise my time in case things either go wrong or take longer to do. A solution for this would be to create a time line so I can easily change the order of what I should when etc. I also need to start to keep a log of what I have done so I can refer back to it for my exam. This is one of the first things will need to develop because it needs to be done through out the year especially because I failed to do this the previous year.

2. The second thing I need to develop is to be more creative with my ideas of what I should do for my tasks. Instead of just relying on just one or two ideas and broaden the variety of ideas. I believe I should use a criteria and then maybe get some feedback from friends and the band itself. However I do know who my audience and so this helps me focus on specific things.

3. The next skill I will need to develop is my managing skills with the performers etc. this is one of the most important skills as I will need to keep control of the situation and work with people a not just use my own ideas which I sometimes do. The balance of what I want and what the band wants the team work will therefore show in the final project.

4. The fourth skill I will need to progress in will be my camera work and to start experimenting with ideas e.g the angles that I am filming at and using different lighting for certain shots etc. This will also be for my editing, the use of different effects e.g shots in black and white slow-motion etc. With these skills improved apon my work will therefore look more professional.
5. The fifth and final skill I will need to improve apon is my writing. I believe that the quality of writing in my blogs for last year could have been alot better. I believe that my knowledge of vocab and writing techniques needs to be 100x better if i have any chance of getting the grades I know I can achieve.

My Recent Activities

For the past two weeks I have been learning how to sync people's lips from a video to a song to make a music video. First we got into pairs and chose the song which we wanted to do. It was either Ace of Spades by Motorhead, Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, Stand by Your Man by Tammy Wynette, Umbrella by Rhianna and finally the one which me and Jo did, Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. With a video camera we filmed each others parts for the video me being the backing vocals and Jo being the lead singer (Bonnie). Next we had to synchronize the music with the video on a program called Adobe Premier Pro by recording the video onto the program and then basically match the lips with the words. We had a few hiccups due to us in the video being quicker than the music but we managed to correct it.

What did i learn from Lip Syncing?

The things I learned for Preparing and Planning my video is that it is essential for this to be done well, or else the rest that follows it will not go according to plan. For example in my case we took lots of short takes in stead if one long one take and then cut it on the software to match the our lips. With the filming I learned that you before the action happens, it is best of you let it run rather than trying to do the all the cuts on the camera, rather than the computer. When I worked with other performers I found that it was easier due it being more relaxed and not a tense or nerve racking than other times doing it on your own. With the technology I have learned how to use all of the software efficiently to create a solid music video with the performers lip synced with the music. Before this I never knew what to do at all so all this is still rather new. But at least I have some understanding of what to do.
